2026 SAVE FOOD Global Packaging Awards Announced; Mono-Material & Smart Freshness Packaging Become Core Industry Innovation Trends

Authoritative interpack exhibition awards released; loss-reduction and recyclable packaging solutions lead global food packaging upgrades

Winners of the 2026 Global Sustainable Food Packaging Innovation Award have been officially unveiled. Award-winning projects focus on biodegradable materials, low-carbon production and recyclable packaging structures. The showcased innovations reflect the mainstream development trends of the international food packaging industry, providing valuable references for enterprises developing sustainable collagen, plastic and cellulose sausage casings.

In July 2026, the SAVE FOOD International Packaging Awards hosted by Düsseldorf interpack packaging exhibition were unveiled. Co-initiated by FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization) and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme), the awards focus on two major tracks: food loss reduction and low-carbon sustainability. Award-winning designs have achieved rapid commercialization worldwide.

  1. Gold Award for Food Loss Reduction (Grupo Lantero, Spain): 100% mono-PET resealable freshness packaging without multi-layer composite structures. It extends shelf life of raw meat and ready-to-eat meals by 40%, fully compatible with existing recycling systems, applicable to plastic casings and fresh food trays.
  2. Bronze Award for Smart Freshness (Innoscentia, Sweden): Color-changing sensor labels without electronic components, which shift color automatically once food deteriorates, cutting fresh food supply chain waste by 31%.
  3. Gold Award for Sustainable Design (ALFA Machine, Greece): Integrated all-PP packaging with matching cups, sealing lids and in-mold labels. Free of aluminum foil and composite layers, suitable for retort and frozen food applications.

The 2026 SAVE FOOD China Summit will be held in Shanghai this November, offering technical docking opportunities for domestic casing, plastic and paper packaging manufacturers. Mono-material and composite-free high-barrier packaging will become core competitive advantages for exports to EU and North American markets.
